It's not what you know, it's who you know. I've heard that a lot throughout my life.
And I'm beginning to believe it. The more connections I make, the more doors open
for me and the more opportunities I find.

When I need someone to fix my car or clean my carpet, I would always rather go with
someone who was referred to me by a friend. If you are self employed, word of
mouth advertising is the best promotion you can get. People are so much more likely
to work with you if they feel they are connected to you through a friend.

When you have kids, being connected to a community is important and gives kids a
sense of belonging. It's wonderful living in an area that is small enough for you to run
into acquaintances everywhere you go.
